SALONE DEL MOBILE.MILANO: BIENNIAL EVENTS

Euroluce 2017.

Light: The Fourth Dimension of Design, Striking the Balance between Functionality and Emotionality

The 29th International Lighting Exhibition opens its doors to visitors between Tuesday 4 and Sunday 9 April 2017 at Fiera Milano Rho. All of the new frontiers of lighting spaces that have made Euroluce the global industry benchmark will be at the Fair.

Euroluce returns alongside the 2017 Salone Internazionale del Mobile, this year with over 39,000 sq. m. of exhibition space spanning four halls (9-11 and 13-15), and with 454 top notch industry exhibitors, half of whom from outside Italy, confirming the event’s status as the world’s benchmark international lighting fair. This year, technological innovation and an architectural and design-led approach are the undisputed stars of the show.

The wide range of products on offer – unique in terms of variety and comprehensiveness – encompasses the latest new devices for lighting environments, innovations in lighting systems, light sources and software for light-related technology, as well as the use of original new eco-sustainable materials. Euroluce is the most stimulating international platform for the lighting market and a must-attend event for market players, offering classic, decorative and design-oriented lighting for interiors and outdoors, as well as for the contract and workplace sectors, and products developed for the lighting technology sector.

Euroluce has always been an excellent place for fostering new international business relations for all exhibitors. Italy’s lighting manufacturers have benefited from this, for example, seeing significant global growth during the first 10 months of 2016 with foreign business turnover in excess of 1.3 billion euros, thanks to trade with the United Arab Emirates (up 49.1%), Switzerland (+12.1%) and Belgium (+6.8%). The French market also posted excellent results (exports worth over 159 million euros between January and October 2016, up 5.9%), and is now the sector’s leading reference market.

Euroluce is not just a place for meetings and business, it is also an incubator of trends and inspiration. This year, we will be seeing how contemporary and future lighting design are increasingly oriented towards lighting design conceived to enhance wellbeing, quality of life and activities undertaken in every kind of space.

The challenge for the industry and the key issue will be seeking to strike a harmonious balance between lighting products’ twin values: on one hand, its functionality – its ability to respond efficiently to lighting needs – and on the other, emotionality – that is to say our physical and emotional perception of lit space.

This balance is the end-purpose of the latest LED and OLED technologies and the latest generation of intelligent lighting systems at the Show. These new technologies have been conceived to create a perfect symbiosis between light and built space, enabling architectural lighting to foster well-being and personal effectiveness by focusing on colour, intensity and diffusion.

Intelligent lighting systems can connect lighting to home automation systems and make it responsive and capable of adapting to our moods and circumstances, creating the most congenial atmosphere and ensuring a perfect synergy between energy efficiency, comfort and security. Light becomes a method of communication; the lighting fixture is a “talking” object which institutes an emotional dialogue of the surrounding environment to generate differing levels of comfort.

Euroluce 2017 will be highlighting how these technologies give a new boost to lamp design as it takes on new forms and meanings. For example, the opportunity to create wireless illumination makes it possible to create portable lights that can be carried around inside and outside the home, supporting the trend towards a progressive hybridization of home environments with ever-shifting borders.

With this in mind, lighting and furnishings companies at Euroluce have stretched their portfolios to include lighting solutions built around the concept of personalisation, something that increasingly drives individual consumer choice in the home. Light fixtures and lighting systems are fast becoming privileged tools that make it possible to interpret and “reflect” our moods within the home.

Euroluce 2017 is putting people back at the centre of lighting design. Light is becoming a tool imbued with “consciousness”, a life companion that acts according to our moods, needs and the climactic conditions.
